READ-RITE ANNOUNCES 15GB GMR QUALIFICATION AT MAXTOR CORPORATION
Industry Leading Technology on Current Volume Production and Shipments
MILPITAS, CA � May 1, 2000 -- Read-Rite Corporation (Nasdaq: RDRT ) today announced its GMR heads are qualified on Maxtor Corporation's 15 GB per 3.5-inch platter DiamondMax 60 hard disk drive program. Read-Rite Corporation is already in volume production of head gimbal assemblies (HGAs) and shipping these advanced heads in configurations of up to eight heads per head stack assembly (HSA), supporting capacities up to 60 GB.
"Storage intensive applications are becoming increasingly important in today�s marketplace and the relationship with Read-Rite as one of our key technology suppliers has been very beneficial to us," said Mike Cannon, Maxtor�s president and CEO.
"This is our third Maxtor GMR program to launch this fiscal year," said Alan S. Lowe, president and chief operating officer. "Our GMR technology leadership and execution on Maxtor�s prior GMR programs earned us this DiamondMax qualification." The company noted that these HGAs and HSAs will both come out of it�s ISO 9002 & 14001 qualified production facility in Thailand where it recently consolidated it�s HSA manufacturing.
